SEIKO SCM CORPORATION's lighting fixture Line NEEL ALED Table Lamps received an Award for Good Design from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) in 2018 Since our company was established we have fashioned the NEEL ALED Table Lamp Line through careful cultivation of hera-shibori (metal spinning) traditional methods with our craftsmen who create lamps individually by hand. In recognition of the dwindling number of skilled workers in this field, we focus on the skills of our craftsmen in order to pass this "art" on to future generations. Our ALED Series products are created by working aluminum sheets into a 1mm thickness from a small diameter. The ALED Series is a product that incorporates state-of-the-art metal spinning technology, and receiving this Award was evidence that what we do contributes to the high level of technology of which Japan can be proud. There are few craftsmen who possess high metal spinning skills in Japan today. By receiving this Award, we have been further energized to employ this traditional technology to create beautiful space alternatives to enrich our modern life activities. The Award has served to further invigorate our efforts to maintain and further develop metal-spinning technology.
